FOCUS is growing.

Just a few years ago, our network consisted of only a handful of Centers. Today, FOCUS serves communities through 13 Centers across North America—and with continued support, that number could grow to 17 by the end of this year.

The success of FOCUS Bridgeport reminds us what is possible when Orthodox Christians come together around a shared vision. What began as an exploratory effort has grown into a thriving ministry, creating new opportunities for service, outreach, and community engagement. Now, four additional communities are taking steps toward becoming the next FOCUS Centers.

Each of these developing Centers has received a generous $45,000 matching grant to help fund the hiring of a Center Director and launch local ministry efforts. Every dollar raised brings these communities one step closer to making Christ’s love visible in their neighborhoods.

Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia (DMV)

Since launching in January, the DMV Exploratory Committee has brought together Orthodox Christians from across the region to envision what a future FOCUS Center could look like. The community has already raised more than $26,000 toward its matching grant, demonstrating strong local enthusiasm and commitment to the mission.

San Diego

Momentum continues to build in San Diego, where a dedicated group of volunteers and supporters has already raised more than $34,000 toward its matching grant. Their enthusiasm, commitment, and vision for serving their community have positioned San Diego as one of the most promising emerging FOCUS efforts in the country.

Portland

In February, approximately 150 people representing nearly a dozen parishes gathered at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church for the official launch of the Portland Exploratory Committee process. Since then, local volunteers have been meeting twice each month to discern community needs, identify opportunities for service, and lay the foundation for a future FOCUS Center.

Grand Rapids

In Grand Rapids, the potential development of a FOCUS Center is closely connected to the future of Shepherds of Independence, a long-standing ministry providing supportive housing and care for vulnerable neighbors. Local Orthodox leaders and volunteers are exploring how this unique opportunity could become the foundation for a new FOCUS Center serving the broader community.

Help Unlock the Next Chapter

The growth of FOCUS has always been fueled by Orthodox Christians who believe that faith must be lived through action. Today, these four communities are doing the work of building relationships, gathering support, and discerning how best to serve their neighbors.

With matching grants available in each location, every gift has the power to go twice as far in helping launch new Centers and expand the reach of the ministry.

Together, we can help ensure that more communities experience the hope, dignity, and love that FOCUS seeks to make visible every day.
