Organizational Management Reporting:
- Reports to the Director of Operations of FOCUS North America
- Frequent collaboration with and accountability to the Director of Finance and Director of Development teams
Responsibilities:
- Provide overall leadership and strategic direction for all FOCUS Houston programs
- Ensure programs operate effectively and efficiently in meeting community needs and advancing the mission of FOCUS
- Ensure the financial sustainability of the Center through:
- Engagement in donor development activities – cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising activities
- Development and implementation of an annual fundraising plan
- Assistance in preparation and management of annual operating and capital budgets
- Provide direct supervision, support, and guidance to staff and volunteers
- Ensure staff and volunteers receive appropriate training, oversight, and accountability for their responsibilities
- Recruit, train, and retain volunteers to support Center programs and operations
- Build and strengthen relationships with Orthodox parishes throughout the Houston area
- Maintain accurate and complete records of programs, services, and activities, including required statistical and operational reports
- Ensure accurate and timely tracking and reporting of all Gift-in-Kind revenue and expenses
- Participate directly in FOCUS-sponsored programs to support volunteers and serve clients
- Ensure facilities are safe, secure, and appropriate for the delivery of services
- Maintain adequate inventories of supplies, equipment, and program resources
- Develop collaborative relationships with community leaders, nonprofit organizations, and service providers
- Review and approve Center expenditures and ensure operations remain within approved budgets
- Research, identify, and pursue new funding opportunities
- Implement and uphold FOCUS North America policies, procedures, and standards
- Expand programs and services as community needs and available funding allow
- Facilitate regular meetings with the local Advisory Committee
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with donors, supporters, and community stakeholders
- Establish and maintain partnerships with Orthodox parishes, nonprofit organizations, corporate and foundation funders, benefactors, and community development groups
- Represent FOCUS through presentations, public speaking engagements, and community events
- Periodically attend nonprofit, community development, advocacy, and networking meetings to strengthen community engagement and partnerships
- Build and maintain relationships with local government and agency officials within the Center’s service area
- Perform other duties as assigned by the FOCUS National Office
Candidate Profile:
- Education and Experience:

- Bachelor’s degree required
- Minimum of three years of experience overseeing operations within a service-oriented organization, preferably in social services or community development (five years preferred)
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local laws governing nonprofit organizations, preferably those related to homelessness and social service programs
- Experience supervising staff and/or volunteers
- Experience managing an annual operating budget of at least $100,000
- Familiarity with the doctrines, traditions, and practices of the Orthodox Church
- Ability to read, interpret, and utilize financial statements and budget management reports
- Ability to negotiate and manage service and supply contracts with vendors
- Experience in donor cultivation, stewardship, and engagement preferred
- Experience identifying, securing, and managing grant funding preferred
- Experience working with advisory committees or volunteer leadership groups preferred

- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Working Conditions
- Must reside within reasonable proximity to the service area in Houston
- Frequent local travel required, some interstate travel possibly required to speak on behalf of FOCUS/promote FOCUS activities
- Nominal-but-present security risk working with vulnerable communities
- Combination of inside and outside of a facility typical of FOCUS operations
- Often multilingual and/or multi-racial communities
