A Community In Need
Help our neighbors in the Chirilagua neighborhood of Northern Virginia. With 54.4% of the children living below the federal poverty line, this neighborhood has a higher rate of childhood poverty than 95.2% of U.S. neighborhoods (source: Neighborhoodsocut.com). In collaboration with the Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry, FOCUS North America is launching its annual DC Area Family Care Drive to provide a social safety net for families who are facing Diaper Need. Diaper Need is the lack of a sufficient supply of diapers to keep a baby or toddler clean, dry and healthy (source: National Diaper Bank Network).
Diapers are essential items for a baby’s health. Leaving a baby or toddler in a dirty diaper too long can lead to painful diaper rashes and even urinary tract infections. Sufficient supply of diapers for one child can cost a family between $75 and $100 a month. The effects of inflation are making it even harder for families to purchase diapers–forcing parents to leave their children in soiled diapers much longer than is healthy.
For more than 25 years the Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry has served families in Alexandria and Arlington experiencing food insecurity. The effects of inflation are making it even harder for families living in the Chirilagua neighborhood to purchase food and other essential items.

Ideas For Coordinators$100 Can Provide One Child With Diapers For A Month
Last year, Orthodox faithful in the Metro DC Area joined FOCUS North America to provide over 24,000 diapers along with other care items to Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry. The items were so highly needed, they ran out in only a matter of weeks!
This Spring, we are again working with local Orthodox parishes across the region to purchase and deliver diapers to Grace Episcopal Food Pantry for disbursement. Additionally, other essential items will be collected by your communities and delivered to the food pantry.
Please join us in collecting, purchasing and distributing diapers to families in need right here in the Chirilagua neighborhood of Alexandria. Your gift will support FOCUS North America’s DC Area Family Care Drive program and ensure that Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry has diapers on hand to give to families in need.

- Drop off items on Saturday, June 10th from 11:00am – 12:00pm at Grace Episcopal Church Food Pantry (3601 Russell Rd, Alexandria, VA 22305), where we will be collecting supplies from area Orthodox parishes and will be packing and organizing diapers and supplies to be distributed to families in need.
