The State of Poverty Today
In 2023, the poverty rate stood at 11.1%, affecting approximately 36.8 million people. Despite a 4% rise in median household income, economic gains remain uneven, leaving many behind. Vulnerable groups—including children, older adults, and racial minorities—face the greatest challenges, struggling to meet basic needs like food, housing, and clothing.
FOCUS North America’s Mission
At FOCUS North America, we envision world where everyone experiences and shares the transformative love of Christ. Our 11 Centers across the country work tirelessly to address poverty by providing food, occupation, clothing, understanding, shelter and more. Here’s a closer look at some of our work:
- Supporting Families and Students
Some of our Centers partner with local schools to distribute meals, school supplies, and Christmas gifts to underserved children. These initiatives bring much-needed relief and joy to families facing financial hardships. - Caring for the Vulnerable
We serve unhoused individuals and families through meal programs, hygiene kits, and job placement services at a number of FOCUS Centers. This ministry brings light and hope to those navigating life on the streets in some of America’s largest cities. - Providing Essentials
FOCUS Centers run a robust operation offering hot meals, clothing closets, and transportation assistance in select cities across the United States. This comprehensive support ensures that individuals not only survive but feel part of a caring community. - Compassion for Those in Need
We extend a helping hand at several FOCUS Centers by providing household essentials, employment assistance, transitional housing, and more to help families build new lives with dignity.
