Return Gifts of Love from a Former St. Herman House Resident

Paul Finley, outgoing director of St. Herman House – FOCUS Cleveland has been quoted as saying, “The poor have a great capacity to give.”

Someone who has received mercy and compassion can know the impact of such things better than anyone. Time and again, we hear of people who have been served by FOCUS ministries who then become volunteers or supporters themselves. Their gifts may not be large in a strictly monetary sense, but the heart of gratitude behind their gifts and the sacrifice of their offering is immense.

In fact, a former resident of St. Herman House in Cleveland makes a regular “love gift” to the place and people who helped transform his life when he was most in need of the gift of love himself.

Each month, he sends St. Herman House – FOCUS Cleveland a one-dollar gift with a little note. He gives what he can out of appreciation for the kindness he received and so that others may receive that same kindness in their moment of need.

He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury; and he saw a poor widow put in two copper coins. And He said, “Truly I tell you, this poor widow has put in more than all of them; for they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all the living that she had.” – Luke 21:1-4
