The recent wildfires have significantly impacted both Los Angeles and Orange Counties, which are neighboring counties in Southern California. In Los Angeles County, the Palisades Fire has been particularly devastating. As of January 17, the fire has burned through approximately 40,696 acres, destroyed over 12,300 structures, and resulted in at least 24 fatalities (CAL FIRE).
In Orange County, while no major wildfires have been reported, the region is experiencing secondary effects due to its proximity to Los Angeles County. The local authorities have been actively monitoring the situation and providing updates to ensure community safety. Additionally, the county has seen an influx of families seeking housing after being displaced by the Los Angeles wildfires.
FOCUS has long served the region with Centers based in Orange County (FOCUS SoCal) and Los Angeles County (FOCUS Los Angeles), which spun off from FOCUS SoCal in 2023 to focus even more closely on local needs. Both Centers are witnessing a significant surge in needs from local community members, volunteers, and parish partners, and are exploring the most effective ways to support relief efforts.
In response, FOCUS SoCal and FOCUS Los Angeles have intensified their efforts to provide essential resources such as food, clothing, diapers, personal hygiene products, and household items to those affected.
The FOCUS LA Fire Relief Fund was created in response to the urgent request from FOCUS parishes and volunteers in Southern California who sought a way to support their communities, through FOCUS.
However, as physical donations/supplies become scarce, financial contributions are quickly emerging as the most effective way to provide relief—whether through gift cards or by purchasing food, essential items, and household necessities.
To make it easier for all to help, we’ve opened up a donation link to the broader FOCUS community, inviting even those outside California to support their neighbors in need.
