Continuing a Legacy of Service: Young Adults Participate on a YES Trip in Cincinnati

This year, FOCUS North America proudly celebrates 20 years of Youth Equipped to Serve (YES) and its lasting impact on young lives through service. For two decades, YES has inspired youth and young adults across the country to love and serve each person as the image of Christ.  Through trips, series, and internships, YES equips participants to experience the joy and responsibility of serving their neighbors in transformative ways.

The recent YES Trip at FOCUS Cincinnati offered a powerful example of this mission in action. YES participants began their day with a thoughtful orientation, learning about local needs and the importance of active, respectful service. They then visited a local elementary school, where they distributed essential school supplies and shared a meal with students, families, and other community members. The simple act of sharing food and time opened doors for genuine connection, showing participants the vital role of fellowship in service.

Afterward, the group ventured to a nearby downtown market for a community scavenger hunt, building bridges with local residents. Each part of the day reinforced the value of being present, listening, and understanding the unique character and needs of each community.

The trip was made possible through one of FOCUS’ Local Initiatives: Back-to-School Backpacks, which equips children to start the school year prepared and ready to learn. One of FOCUS North America’s seasonal Local Initiative, this program brings dignity, confidence, and support to families across the country.

The legacy of YES is built on these experiences, as each participant is transformed by their experience of service, gaining a deeper understanding of the Christian life and developing a lifelong commitment to serving others. YES helps young people discover their potential to make an impact, guiding them to be thoughtful, compassionate servant leaders rooted in the Orthodox Church.
